The National Monument to the Forefathers is one of the most neglected National memorials in the Nation. It is a shame that the nearly million annual visitors to Plymouth rarely see this highly symbolic tribute to the Pilgrims.
Built with both public and private funds by the Pilgrim Society it was dedicated in 1889. In 2001 it was deeded to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with great promises of restoration and development.
It was built on the top of a bare hill that was near the waterfront in Plymouth, MA. Since then an enormous amount of vegetation and nearby housing has nearly obscured its view.
The seated figure of Education was paid for by schoolchildren sending pennies and nickels. The Monument is in real need of help from the general public. Please join with those schoolchildren from long ago and send a gift to help restore the Monument.
